The lateral hip refers to the outer side of the hip region, over the greater trochanter. It includes muscles (gluteus medius/minimus, tensor fasciae latae), tendons and bursa and connects to the iliotibial band. Lateral hip pain often stems from trochanteric bursitis, gluteal tendinopathy, or referred lumbar pain; symptoms include ache, tenderness, and pain worsened by lying on or using the affected side.
