Ultrasound Breast Both

USG of both breasts is a bilateral breast ultrasound (ultrasonography) using high‑frequency sound waves to image breast tissue. It evaluates lumps, cysts, masses, and nearby lymph nodes, distinguishes solid from fluid lesions, and can guide needle biopsies. It’s safe, non‑invasive and radiation‑free, often used with mammography—especially for younger, pregnant, or women with dense breasts; minimal preparation is needed.

Breast ultrasound can distinguish solid from fluid-filled masses and often detects suspicious features—especially useful for women with dense breasts or to evaluate a palpable lump. It helps guide biopsies but cannot definitively diagnose cancer; a biopsy (and sometimes additional imaging like mammography or MRI) is required to confirm malignancy. Operator skill and lesion characteristics affect accuracy.

A bilateral breast ultrasound is an imaging test that uses high-frequency sound waves to examine both breasts. It visualizes lumps, cysts and tissue differences, helps evaluate abnormalities found on mammography, assesses dense breast tissue and can guide biopsies. The procedure is noninvasive, radiation-free, typically performed with a handheld transducer over each breast and armpit, and usually takes about 15–30 minutes.

The best time for a breast ultrasound in premenopausal women is in the follicular phase, about days 7 to 14 after the first day of your period, when breasts are least dense and less tender. However, if you discover a new lump, pain, or discharge, don’t delay—get imaged promptly. Pregnant or breastfeeding women and those with implants can have ultrasound at any time.

Breast ultrasound (USG) is generally painless. A lubricating gel and a gently pressed probe may cause mild pressure or brief discomfort, especially if breasts are tender or swollen. It’s non‑invasive, uses sound waves (no radiation), and is usually quick. If you feel sharp pain, tell the sonographer — they can adjust pressure or pause and arrange follow‑up if needed.

Many people report brief discomfort or pain during mammography because the breast is compressed to get clear images. Intensity varies — from mild pressure to short sharp pain — and can be worse around your period, with dense breasts, or if you’re anxious. Pain typically lasts only minutes; timing after menses, taking a painkiller, relaxing, and telling the technologist can help.
