It should be interpreted with symptoms and confirmatory tests (blood culture or PCR), since false positives or cross‑reactivity can occur. Typhidot is a rapid serological test for typhoid fever that detects IgM and IgG antibodies against Salmonella Typhi antigens using a dot/strip method. A positive IgM suggests recent infection, while IgG indicates past or ongoing exposure. It gives quick results but has variable sensitivity and specificity, so results should be interpreted with clinical findings and, when possible, confirmed by blood culture.

Anyone suspected of having typhoid fever should get a Typhidot test, especially patients with persistent fever (usually 3–5 days or longer), headache, abdominal pain, constipation or diarrhea, loss of appetite, or recent travel to typhoid-endemic areas. It’s helpful when blood culture isn’t available or is delayed, during outbreaks, and for early diagnosis before antibiotics; clinicians decide based on symptoms and exposure.

A positive Salmonella typhi result means the bacterium or its markers (culture, PCR, antigen, or specific antibodies) have been detected, indicating typhoid illness or, with antibody-only tests, recent or past exposure or carrier status. Confirmatory testing and clinical correlation are needed. Typhoid requires prompt antibiotic treatment, monitoring for complications (sepsis, intestinal perforation), and public-health measures because it’s contagious.

A positive IgM usually indicates recent or acute infection, but it can reflect early immune response after vaccination, cross‑reactivity, or a false positive. Interpretation depends on the specific pathogen, symptoms, timing, and other tests (PCR, IgG, repeat serology).
