Treat Pseudomonas in pregnancy with culture-directed, pregnancy-safe antipseudomonal antibiotics under obstetric/infectious-disease guidance. Preferred options include beta-lactams (piperacillin–tazobactam, ceftazidime/cefepime) and, for severe infections, carbapenems; aztreonam is an alternative. Avoid systemic fluoroquinolones when possible. Topical therapy may be used for localized infections. Always tailor therapy to susceptibility and maternal–fetal risk, and consult promptly.

Pseudomonas aeruginosa is diagnosed by culture of clinical specimens (wound, sputum, urine, blood) on selective media (cetrimide or MacConkey) with identification by oxidase positivity, non‑lactose fermentation, characteristic blue‑green pigment and growth at 42°C. Confirmation uses biochemical panels, MALDI‑TOF or PCR; isolates undergo antibiotic susceptibility (culture and sensitivity) testing to guide therapy.

Pseudomonas infections, especially Pseudomonas aeruginosa, can be serious. They often cause hospital-acquired pneumonia, bloodstream, urinary tract and wound infections, and pose high risk for people with weakened immunity or chronic lung disease. The bacterium is frequently resistant to multiple antibiotics, so prompt diagnosis and targeted treatment are important. Good hygiene, device care and wound management help reduce risk.

Pseudomonas (especially P. aeruginosa) can cause nausea, usually indirectly: respiratory, urinary, wound or bloodstream infections may trigger a systemic inflammatory response or sepsis that produces GI symptoms like nausea and vomiting. Primary gut infection is rare. Nausea with fever, severe pain, or signs of sepsis requires prompt medical assessment and treatment.

Pseudomonas aeruginosa can occasionally infect the genital or urinary tract and has been associated with reduced sperm motility, epididymitis or pelvic infections in vulnerable or instrumented patients. In otherwise healthy people it rarely causes permanent infertility, but severe, recurrent, or untreated reproductive-tract infections can impair fertility. Prompt diagnosis, targeted antibiotics and specialist assessment are recommended if reproductive infection or fertility problems occur.

The most common treatment for Pseudomonas aeruginosa infections is antipseudomonal antibiotics, typically an extended‑spectrum beta‑lactam such as piperacillin‑tazobactam, ceftazidime or cefepime.
