Inguino-scrotal ultrasound is a noninvasive imaging test using high-frequency sound waves to examine the groin (inguinal canal) and scrotal contents. It evaluates testicles, epididymis, spermatic cord and surrounding tissues for hydrocele, varicocele, epididymitis, torsion, hernia and trauma. Doppler assesses blood flow. It’s typically outpatient, painless, involves no radiation, and may include Valsalva or positional maneuvers.

The scrotal Doppler ultrasound evaluates scrotal and testicular anatomy and blood flow. It’s used to differentiate testicular torsion (reduced/absent flow) from inflammation or infection, detect varicoceles, assess trauma, investigate lumps or infertility, and evaluate undescended testes. Noninvasive and real-time, it helps guide diagnosis and treatment decisions by showing vascularity of the testicles and scrotal masses.

A scrotal Doppler ultrasound is non‑invasive and usually not painful. You may feel cold gel and mild pressure from the probe, which can cause temporary discomfort—especially if the scrotum is already tender from infection, inflammation, varicocele, or trauma. The exam takes about 10 to 30 minutes, involves no radiation, and is safe. Tell the technician if you have significant pain.

A scrotal Doppler ultrasound typically takes 15–30 minutes to perform. Including check‑in, changing and a brief clinical history, plan for about 30–45 minutes at the clinic. The test is noninvasive and usually comfortable. Some centres provide preliminary results immediately; final reports are sent to your referring clinician within a few days.

An inguinal ultrasound images the groin to identify causes of pain, swelling or a palpable lump. It detects inguinal and femoral hernias, evaluates lymph nodes, soft-tissue masses, fluid collections or abscesses, and vascular or testicular-related problems (e.g., varicocele or extension of infection). It’s noninvasive and helps guide clinical decisions and planning for further tests or surgical repair.

Doppler ultrasound shows blood flow within arteries and veins, measuring its direction and velocity. It detects narrowed or blocked vessels, blood clots, turbulent or reduced flow, and venous valve dysfunction. It assesses peripheral arterial disease, carotid disease, deep vein thrombosis, and fetal/placental circulation in pregnancy. Findings guide diagnosis, monitor perfusion, and inform treatment decisions.
