A high absolute lymphocyte count (lymphocytosis) can reflect acute or chronic viral infections, certain bacterial infections, autoimmune disease, stress or smoking, and hematologic conditions like chronic lymphocytic leukemia. It may be asymptomatic; evaluation typically includes repeat CBC, peripheral smear, infection testing, and sometimes immunophenotyping or referral to a hematologist to identify the cause and guide treatment.
