Followers of ultra low carb diets have given the potato a bad reputation. It’s time we bring this nutritious spud back in food fashion.

The humble potato is not all carbs folks. This tuber is rich in dietary fibre, protein and fat. It is loaded with all sorts of vitamin B! You name it ― B1 , B3 B6  as well as VItamin C. Infact, a small morsel of potato contains more than half the recommended dose of vitamin C. it also contains potassium, magnesium and phosphorous.

We know that bananas are a rich source of potassium, a mineral that helps to regulate blood pressure, but did you know that a baked potato can give you twice the amount of potassium? But watch out on your cooking methods : cubing your potatoes before boiling can reduce the potassium content by 75 percent. The best way to eat – bake them with the skin.

  • Maintaining bone health

The minerals phosphorus, manganese, magnesium help in maintaining the bone structure and strength. Taking 2 tsp of raw potato juice before meals can help ease rheumatism pain.

  • Keeps nerves and muscles healthynerves

Vitamin B6 found in potatoes helps in production of neurotransmitters that help in maintaining the coordination of the nervous system. Carbohydrates that come from potatoes help in replenishing the glycogen (glucose) stores.

Potatoes are known to be natural anti-ageing agents. They remove dark circles under your eyes, and keep you wrinkle free. They also lighten dark spots and blemishes. Sliced potatoes can effectively treat a sunburn. They make for a good  skin whitening and natural face cleanser.

Bake, shred,mash, roast or steam – there are so many delicious ways to prepare this spud instead of drowning them in a fryer.
